I would had protected the 🐙. As an animal behaviour student, I LOVED the respect he showed to the octopus, as well as the other creatures in the water. His restraint in his interactions, how he let nature take its' course, it was a relief and also a great lesson for those watching. Do not disturb animals in their environment!
